Another mandatory minimum case before the SCC

The Supreme Court of Canada has granted leave to appeal in R. v Lloyd in a case where the applicant was convicted on several counts related to drug trafficking. Under consideration is the legality of the mandatory minimum sentence mandatory for repeat offenders.  Not unlike the Nur case, the trial judge considered the scenario of a hypothetical offender who has in his possession a small amount of a substance, to determine whether the sentence was grossly disproportionate.
